Citing Climate Data and the HPRCC Website

The High Plains Regional Climate Center (HPRCC) website contains climate data and information that are used for a number of purposes. Oftentimes, there is a need to cite this information in reports, presentations, or publications. This guide should help answer some frequently asked questions regarding citations. All citation examples are based on the American Meteorological Society’s Reference Guide.

The HPRCC provides data from a number of state and federal sources. When possible, provide the name of the dataset in your citation. Examples include, but are not limited to: Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS), National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program (COOP), Nebraska Mesonet, and Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS). Data access provided by the HPRCC may be noted, but is not required.

If you are unsure of the data source, please contact us for more information.
