Temperature

Temperatures were above normal for the majority of the region. The highest temperatures were 12°F to over 15°F above normal in northwestern Wyoming. The lowest temperatures were 9°F to 12°F below normal in northwestern Wyoming and eastern North Dakota.

Temperatures in northwestern Colorado and central and western Wyoming reached 12°F to 15°F above normal, with some areas in Wyoming reaching temperatures greater than 15°F above normal. The hottest temperature was 96°F at Grand Junction, Colorado, which is 7°F above normal for the area. The lowest temperatures were 9°F to 12°F below normal in eastern North Dakota and northeastern South Dakota.

Temperatures in northwestern Wyoming reached 9°F to 15°F below normal. The coldest temperature was 47°F at Casper, Wyoming, which is 3°F above normal for the area. The highest temperatures were in northwestern Colorado and northwestern Wyoming reaching 9°F to 12°F above normal, with an area in Wyoming reaching 12°F to 15°F above normal.

Precipitation

Precipitation amounts varied this week, ranging from 2 percent of normal in eastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas, along the borders of Colorado, southern Wyoming, scattered parts of central South Dakota, and central and northern North Dakota, to 400 percent of normal in northeastern South Dakota and southeastern North Dakota. Wilmot, South Dakota received 6.75 inches of precipitation; most of it fell on the 13th.

Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) conditions improved from 69 percent to 65 percent. In the region, each state experienced a decrease in D0 conditions with Kansas experiencing the greatest decrease in conditions by 17 percent and Wyoming experiencing the greatest increase in conditions by 1 percent.

Severe Storms

Kansas and North Dakota received hail of 1 inch and 1 to 1.25 inches in diameter, respectively. South Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado received hail from 1 to 1.75 inches in diameter. Nebraska and Colorado received multiple tornado reports, including a landspout spotted north of the Denver International Airport and a rainbow next to a massive tornado near Dickens and North Platte, Nebraska. Wyoming received hail 1 to 2 inches in diameter.
