Temperature 

This week featured below normal temperatures for the majority of the region. The coldest regions were northern Wyoming, central South Dakota, and central Nebraska with temperatures 6°F to 8°F below normal with some spots reaching 8°F to 10°F below normal. The warmest region was the northwestern corner of Wyoming reaching 2°F to 4°F above normal.

Maximum temperatures were below normal for most of the region. Northern Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, and northern Wyoming reached temperatures 11°F below normal. Temperatures in southeastern Kansas, southcentral Colorado, and the Nebraska-South Dakota-Wyoming border reached 0°F to 2°F above normal. The warmest temperature was 94°F in Grand Junction, Colorado which is normal for the area.

Minimum temperatures were 4°F to 10°F below normal in central and northern Nebraska, central and western South Dakota, and central and western Wyoming. The coldest temperature was 46°F in Alamosa, Colorado which is normal for the area, and Casper, Wyoming which is 5°F below normal for the area. Temperatures in the northwestern and southeastern corners of Wyoming reached 6°F to 8°F above normal.

Precipitation 

Precipitation amounts varied this week, ranging from 2 percent in southwestern Wyoming, southeastern Kansas, southeastern South Dakota, and southcentral and northeastern Colorado to 800 percent in small spots of southwestern and eastern Colorado and northern Wyoming. Columbia, South Dakota received 7.12 inches in precipitation, well above their normal of 0.13 inches; most of this fell on the 1st.

Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) across the region was down from 43 percent to 40 percent. In the region, Colorado experienced the highest decrease in D0 conditions by 15 percent while Wyoming experienced the highest increase in D0 conditions with a 4 percent increase.

Severe Storms 

Wyoming received hail 1 inch in diameter. Kansas and North Dakota received hail 1 to 1.75 inches in diameter. South Dakota and Nebraska received hail 1 to 2.75 inches in diameter, and Nebraska reported an EF-1 tornado in Lancaster County and an EF-0 tornado in Saline County. Colorado received hail 1 to 3.5 inches in diameter.
