Temperature
This week featured below normal temperatures in most of the region. The coldest regions included nearly all of Wyoming, the northwestern corner of Colorado, a small part of central South Dakota, and northern North Dakota with temperatures of 4°F to 10°F below. The warmest regions were the majority of Kansas and the southeastern corner of Nebraska with temperatures of 2°F to 6°F.
Maximum temperatures were 4°F to 8°F below normal for nearly all of Wyoming, northern North Dakota, and the northwestern corner of Colorado. Most of Kansas, eastern Nebraska, and eastern Colorado were 0°F to 6°F above normal with a spot on the Colorado-Kansas border reaching 6°F to 9°F above normal. The warmest temperature was in Dodge City, Kansas with 84°F which is 3°F above normal for the city.
Minimum temperatures were 4°F to 10°F below normal in a majority of Wyoming and Colorado with spots in central North Dakota and central South Dakota. The coldest temperature was in Alamosa, Colorado with 34°F which is 1°F below normal for the area. The northwestern and southeastern corners of Wyoming and southeastern Kansas were 2°F to 4°F above normal.
Precipitation
Precipitation amounts varied this week, ranging from 2 percent of normal in southern Colorado, the northeastern corner of Wyoming, and the southwestern corner of Kansas to 800 percent normal in the northwestern corner of Colorado. Fremont, Nebraska received 8.04 inches of rain this week, well above their normal of 0.15 inches; most of this fell during the storm on the 21st.
Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) across the region was down from 39 percent to 34 percent. Out of the region, Kansas experienced an 11 percent decrease in D0 conditions.
Severe Weather
Colorado reported hail 1 to 4 inches in diameter with Yuma and Washington counties reporting 4-inch hail. Kansas and Nebraska reported hail 1 to 3 inches in diameter along with one EF1 tornado in Johnson County, Kansas and three reported in Nebraskan counties Adams, Howard, and Phelps. North and South Dakota reported hail 1 to 1.75 inches in diameter.
