Temperature

Temperatures in the southeastern portion of the region reached temperatures above normal, with the highest being 12°F to 15°F above normal in southeastern Nebraska, and scattered parts of central and eastern Kansas. The lowest temperatures were 6°F to 9°F below normal in northcentral and a small part of eastern North Dakota, and northwestern Wyoming.

Temperatures in southeastern South Dakota, southern Nebraska, and central Kansas reached greater than 15°F above normal. The hottest temperature was 82°F in Salina, Kansas, which is 15°F above normal for the area. The lowest temperatures were greater than 15°F below normal in a small area in southeastern Wyoming.

Temperatures in parts of eastern Wyoming, and scattered parts of central and eastern North Dakota reached 6°F to 9°F below normal. The coldest temperature was 21°F in Alamosa, Colorado, which is 4°F below normal for the area. The highest temperatures were 12°F to 15°F above normal in scattered parts of eastern Kansas.

Precipitation

Precipitation amounts varied in the region, ranging from less than 2 percent of normal in southeastern and northwestern North Dakota, across central and eastern South Dakota along with the southwestern corner of the state, scattered parts throughout Nebraska, parts of western and eastern Wyoming, the majority of Kansas, and eastern and central Colorado, to 200 to 400 percent of normal in southeastern Kansas, northwestern Colorado, northwestern Wyoming, and central and western North Dakota. Columbus, Kansas received 4.99 inches of precipitation with most of it falling on the 16th.

Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) conditions decreased from 80 percent to 77 percent. In the region, Kansas experienced the highest decrease in D0 conditions by 9 percent.

Severe Storms

South Dakota and Nebraska received hail 1 to 1.5 inches and 1 to 2 inches in diameter respectively. Kansas had multiple storms throughout the week which resulted in hail, flooding, high winds, and tornadoes, causing extensive damage.
