Improvement for some

Most locations in Nebraska had precipitation last week and for some locations, it was the first measurable precipitation for the month of October. The good news is that the precipitation was significant enough in quantity to allow for improvements at some sites, particularly across portions of southwestern Nebraska and north central Nebraska. The bad news is the portion of the state that needs the precipitation the most, the south central region, didn't receive enough precipitation for improvements. Most of the sites in that area of the state are now in the lowest SMI category, denoted by the red circles (see map below). Moderate precipitation chances exist across most of the state this week, but amounts are expected to be light. Thus, widespread improvements across the panhandle and south central regions are unlikely.
