High Plains Weekly Drought Update - March 5, 2020

Minor changes to drought conditions were made this past week, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. These changes occurred in Colorado where moderate drought (D1) conditions were introduced in the northeastern part of the state and expanded slightly in the east. The rest of the High Plains remained unchanged this week.
As of March 5, snow water equivalent (SWE) values in Colorado basins were reported as near to above median, resulting in a statewide snowpack of 106% of median. The March 2 Weekly Snow Report for Wyoming was not available at the time of this writing.
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for above-normal temperatures throughout the High Plains. Increased chances for above-normal precipitation are present throughout the High Plains. The 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast shows that precipitation could occur in portions of all states in the region with the greatest amounts potentially occurring in northeast Kansas and southwest Colorado.
