Very minor changes were made to drought conditions in the High Plains this past week according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Due to recent precipitation, areas of abnormally dry (D0) and moderate drought (D1) were reduced this past week in south-central Kansas. In Wyoming, areas of D0 were adjusted after snowpack was reported as near normal to slightly below normal.

Snow water equivalent (SWE) values in Colorado basins were reported as above median, resulting in a statewide snowpack of 107% of median. Wyoming’s SWE values were also reported as near or above median, with the state as a whole at 110% of median.

The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation throughout the High Plains. The 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast predicts the precipitation could occur in all states with the greatest amounts expected in central Colorado.
