Drought-stricken areas of the High Plains received little to no rainfall again this week, resulting in the degradation of conditions across Colorado and Kansas. Areas of severe (D2) and moderate (D1) drought conditions were expanded throughout Colorado and western Kansas. Abnormally dry (D0) conditions were also expanded across Colorado, southern Wyoming, and from western Kansas into southwestern Nebraska. The rest of the High Plains continued to remain free of dry conditions this week.

Corn and soybean harvest continued this week, but was well behind the 5-year average in the Dakotas.

The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for below-normal temperature across all of the High Plains. Chances for above-normal precipitation are also present in Kansas and eastern Nebraska, while there are increased chances of below-normal precipitation for western Colorado and western Wyoming. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is possible across the majority of the High Plains, with the greatest amounts expected in southeastern Kansas and southeastern Wyoming.
