Updated:
This week, the U.S. Drought Monitor expanded areas of moderate drought (D1) and abnormally dry (D0) conditions in central Colorado and southwestern Kansas due to long term deficits of precipitation. D1 conditions also expanded along the border of Colorado and Utah. The rest of the High Plains remains free of drought conditions again this week.
Pasture and crop conditions continued to fare well this week; however, corn and soybean progress remains behind average.
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for below-normal temperatures in Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, northern Kansas, and northern Colorado while southern Colorado and eastern Kansas are favored to experience above-normal temperatures. The outlook also has increased chances for above-normal precipitation throughout most of the High Plains. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is possible across most of the High Plains, with the greatest amounts expected in eastern portions of Kansas and Nebraska.
