Rainfall across the northern High Plains helped relieve dryness in North Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Abnormally dry (D0) conditions in North Dakota and Nebraska were eliminated this week, along with a reduction of D0 coverage in western Wyoming. Conversely, the U.S. Drought Monitor expanded the areas of moderate drought (D1) and D0 conditions in southern Kansas due to precipitation deficits. Conditions in the rest of the High Plains remain unchanged.

Pasture and crop conditions continued to fare well this week; however, corn and soybean progress remains behind average.

The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has above-normal precipitation favored for all of the High Plains and increased chances for above-normal temperatures for a majority of the High Plains besides western Wyoming. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is possible across most of the High Plains, with the greatest amounts eastern Kansas.
