Drought conditions changed very little in the High Plains this week. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the area experiencing abnormally dry (D0) conditions in central Colorado was reduced due to decreasing long-term precipitation deficits. Otherwise, there were no changes to the drought depiction for the rest of the High Plains this week.

Snowpack in both Wyoming and Colorado continued to remain well above normal this week, with snowpack in areas of southwestern Colorado pushing towards record levels.

The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for below-normal temperatures throughout the High Plains, as well as increased chances for above-normal precipitation in all states except North Dakota. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is likely throughout most of the High Plains with the greatest amounts expected in northwestern and eastern Wyoming, northern Colorado, much of Nebraska, and eastern Kansas.
