High Plains Weekly Drought Update - March 14, 2019

Drought conditions improved in Colorado again this week due to beneficial precipitation that continued to build snowpack. Severe drought (D2) conditions were reduced in southern Colorado, as the surrounding moderate drought (D1) conditions were improved as well. Much of western Colorado’s drought conditions improved to abnormally dry (D0), with counties immediately west of Denver now free of all drought conditions.
Snowpack in both Wyoming and Colorado continued to remain well above normal this week.
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances of below-normal temperatures in northeastern Colorado, eastern Wyoming, southwestern North Dakota, western South Dakota, and the panhandle of Nebraska. Increased chances for above-normal precipitation are present in southern Colorado. Increased chances for below-normal precipitation are present in Wyoming, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and eastern Kansas. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is likely in the eastern High Plains and eastern Colorado with the greatest amounts expected southeast South Dakota and northeast Nebraska.
