After a cool week in the High Plains, minor reductions were made to drought conditions in some areas. For instance, reductions of extreme drought (D3) and severe drought (D2) were made in north-central Colorado after the region received snowfall over the weekend. Exceptional drought (D4) conditions were also reduced in south-central Colorado, and western and northeastern Wyoming saw reductions to abnormally dry (D0) conditions due to snow showers that fell across the region. However, in central Wyoming, D0 conditions were expanded after continued dryness over the past several weeks.
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook has increased chances for below-normal temperatures in Kansas, southern Colorado, eastern Nebraska, eastern North Dakota, and eastern South Dakota while Wyoming, western North Dakota and western South Dakota has increased chances for above-normal temperatures. Increased chances for below-normal precipitation are present throughout the High Plains. According to the 7-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, precipitation is likely throughout most of the High Plains, with the greatest amounts expected in eastern Kansas and south central Colorado.
