Weekly High Plains Drought Update - March 31, 2017

Conditions across most the High Plains Region remained unchanged this week, however there were some improvements in Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska. North Dakota's zone of abnormally dry conditions present in the southwest corner of the state continues this week. Areas of moderate (D1) drought and abnormal dryness (D0) remained across western South Dakota as well as conditions in eastern Wyoming. Eastern Kansas saw the decrease of D0 and D1 conditions, while conditions in southwestern Kansas remain unchanged. Nebraska's and eastern Colorado's conditons saw improvements as well as this week.
Over 62% of the High Plains Region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.
Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the High Plains Region as well as most of the western and southern US, while the temeperatures along the East Coast are expected to be near-normal. Meanwhile, above normal precipitation is expected for the extreme eastern portion of the High Plains Region as well as the Pacific Northwest and Northeast. Below normal precipitation is expected for most of the southern areas of the High Plains and most of the southern US.
