Conditions across most the High Plains Region remained unchanged this week due to the cold temperatures and little precipitation, however there were some changes in Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming.  North Dakota's zone of abnormally dry conditions present in the southwest corner of the state continues this week.  Areas of moderate (D1) drought, abnormal dryness (D0), and severe drought (D2) remained across western South Dakota.  Western Kansas remained unchanged this week with D0, D1, and D2 conditions still persisting, while southeastern Kansas saw the introduction of D1 conditions.  D1 conditions diminished across eastern Wyoming, while conditions in the northern portion of the state remained constant.  Central and western Nebraska saw no changes in D1 conditions and D2 conditions, while in western Colorado conditions improved this week.

Over 56% of the High Plains Region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.

Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the eastern portion of the High Plains region as well as most of the eastern US, while the temeperatures in the western portion of the region are expected to be below normal.  Meanwhile, above normal precipitation is expected for the High Plains Region as well as most of the continental US excluding the Southern Plains.
