Ecoregions and Crop Reporting Districts

The Soil Moisture Index (SMI) is averaged by the EPA's Level 3 Ecoregions and by the USDA NASS Crop Reporting Districts in Nebraska.
There are multiple AWDN stations with soil moisture in five of Nebraska's Level 3 Ecoregions (Fig. 1). These Ecoregions (corresponding Ecoregion map number in parenthesis) and sites located within them are as follows:
Central Great Plains (27): Cozad, Curtis, Gothenburg, Grand Island, Holdrege, Kearney, McCook, Minden, Monroe, North Platte, Red Cloud, Shelton, Smithfield, York
High Plains (25): Alliance North, Brule North Table, Cedar Point, Champion, Gordon, Scottsbluff, Sidney
Northwestern Great Plains (43): Higgins Ranch, Sparks
Sand Hills (44): Ainsworth, Arthur, Barta, Brunswick, Dickens, Elgin, Gudmundsens, Halsey, Merna, Merritt, Newport, O'Neill, Ord
Western Corn Belt (47): Beatrice, Concord, Firth, Indian Cave State Park, Mead, Nebraska City, West Point
There are also multiple sites within Nebraska's USDA NASS Crop Reporting Districts (Fig.2). They are as follows:
Central (District 50): Cozad, Gothenburg, Grand Island, Kearney, Shelton, Merna, Ord
East Central (District 60): Firth, Mead, Monroe, York
North Central (District 20): Ainsworth, Arthur, Barta, Gudmundsens, Halsey, Higgins Ranch, Merritt, Newport, O'Neill, Sparks
Northeast (District 30): Brunswick, Concord, Elgin, West Point
Northwest (District 10): Alliance North, Gordon, Scottsbluff, Sidney
South Central (District 80): Holdrege, Minden, Red Cloud, Smithfield
Southeast (District 90): Beatrice, Indian Cave State Park, Nebraska City
Southwest (District 70): Brule North Table, Cedar Point, Champion, Curtis, Dickens, McCook, North Platte
