Minus 44 Degrees in Bismarck

Here is what happened to a hot cup of coffee at -44 degrees Fahrenheit at the Bismarck Forecast Office. Picture taken by Karl Venneberg at 730 am CST.

A record low temperature of -44 was set at the Bismarck NWS office today, January 15th. This cold temperature is only 1 degree from the all time low of -45 which occurred January 13, 1916 and again February 16, 1936. This picture is an example of hot water being evaporated in cold air. This is actually a cup of coffee (with creamer) being tossed into the air at -44 degrees.
