Update on Drought Conditions in the High Plains Region - October 23, 2014

It was a dry week across the High Plains region, and little relief was experienced in drought-stricken areas. Except for southwestern Wyoming and pockets of eastern Nebraska, the region received below normal precipitation in the past week. The only change in the U.S. Drought Monitor this week was some trimming of abnormally dry conditions (D0) in eastern Kansas. Elsewhere, it was status quo.
Looking at the upcoming week, it doesn’t appear that there will be much relief on the way for drought-stricken areas. Eastern Kansas, western Colorado, and northwestern Wyoming are expected to receive approximately an inch of precipitation, but little precipitation is expected across southeastern Colorado and southwestern Kansas where it is needed most.To learn more about the U.S. Drought Monitor, please see: http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu
