Conditions across the High Plains Region continued to degrade this week.  North Dakota's zone of abnormally dry conditions along the southern border of the state continues this week.  Areas of moderate (D1) drought, abnormal dryness (D0), and severe drought (D2) remained unchanged across South Dakota, while western Kansas saw the expansion of D1 conditions this week.  D0 and D1 conditions expanded across southern Wyoming, while conditions in the northern portion of the state remained constant.  Central and western Nebraska saw an increase in D0 and D1 conditions this week as well.  Conditions in Colorado continue to deteriorate with an increase in zones of D0 and D1 drought across the state as well as the introduction of D2 conditions, resulting in over 98% of the state experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions.

Over 46% of the High Plains Region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.

Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the region as well as across most of the continental US excluding the East Coast.  Meanwhile, below normal precipitation is expected for the western portion of the High Plains Region as well as most of the Plains, Southwest, and Florida.  Above normal precipitation is expected for the eastern portion of the Region as well as the Midwest, Northeast, and West Coast.
