Cold Continues Unabated High Plains in Grip of Winter Weather

Cold Weather and Winter Conditions Remain Locked Over the Great Plains. The cold wave that started back in mid-Janaury continues one month later in our region. Although no cold weather records are in jeopardy, the temperatures day and night have remained below freezing. Notice the snow is missing in parts of western SD, and NW Nebraska. Temperatures were able to reach into the 50's this week because of the lack of snowcover. Meanwhile, the rest of the high plains continues to have air that is cold influenced partly by the snow cover.
Snow cover, as seen in the image above, extends much further south than in previous years.
