Updated:
Conditions across the High Plains Region continued to degrade this week. North Dakota once again remains almost completely free of drought and abnormally dry conditions, except for the extreme southern border of the state. Areas of moderate (D1) drought, abnormal dryness (D0), and severe drought (D2) remained unchanged across South Dakota, while western Kansas saw the expansion of abnormal dryness and D1 conditions this week. D0 conditions expanded across southern Wyoming, while conditions in the northern portion of the state remained constant. Southern Nebraska saw an increase in D0 and D1 conditions this week as well. Conditions in Colorado continue to deteriorate with an increase in zones of D0 and D1 drought across the state, resulting in over 91% of the state experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions.
Over 51% of the High Plains Region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.
Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the region as well as across most of the continental US. Meanwhile, below normal precipitation is expected for the High Plains Region as well as most of the country excluding the far southern US.
