Conditions across the High Plains Region saw further degradation this week.  North Dakota continues to remain almost completely free of drought and abnormally dry conditions, except for the extreme southern border of the state.  Areas of moderate (D1) drought as well as abnormal dryness (D0) remained unchanged across Wyoming, while Kansas saw the expansion of abnormal dryness and D1 conditions in the western portion of the state.  D0 and D1 drought conditions expanded across South Dakota this week and D2 conditions in the western portion of the state continue to persist.  Southern Nebraska saw an increase in D0 conditions this week as well.  Conditions in Colorado continue to deteriorate with an increase in zones of D0 and D1 drought in the eastern portion of the state, resulting in over 64% of the state experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions.

Over 61% of the High Plains Region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.

Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the region as well as across of the entire continental US.  Meanwhile, below normal precipitation is expected for the northern and western portions of the High Plains Region as well as the Southwest and eastern US.  The southern portion of the region as well as the Pacific Northwest and Southern Plains are expecting above normal precipitation totals.
