Improvements in conditions in Wyoming occurred this week, while Colorado and Kansas saw further degradation.  North Dakota remains almost completely free of drought and abnormally dry conditions, except for the southern border of the state once again this week.  Areas of moderate (D1) drought as well as abnormal dryness (D0) decreased further across western Wyoming.  Kansas saw the expansion of abnormal dryness in the western portion of the state as well as the addition of D1 conditions.  D0, D1, and D2 drought conditions continue to linger in western South Dakota and southern Nebraska this week.  Conditions in Colorado deteriorate with zones of D0 and D1 conditions continuing to expand to the southeastern portion of the state.

Over 67% of the High Plains region is currently free of drought or abnormal dryness.

Over the next week, above normal temperatures are expected across the region as well as most of the continental US excluding the West Coast and Northeast.  Meanwhile, below normal precipitation is expected for the southwestern portions of the High Plains Region as well as the Southwest and Southeast regions of the US.  The northwestern areas of the High Plains Region are expecting to experience near normal precipitation values this week, while the eastern portion of the region as well as the Midwest and West Coast are expecting above normal precipitation totals.
