Weekly High Plains Drought Update - May 26, 2016

Additional precipitation across the Plains this week brought minor relief to the remaing areas of drought and dryness according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Only 9% of the region is currently experiencing drought or abnormally dry condtitions. Although the heavy precipitiaton helped the region, drought and abnormal dryness is still present in northwestern North Dakota, northeastern South Dakota, and northern Wyoming.
Over the next week, above normal precipitaton is expected across most of the region in addititon to most of the eastern US. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be above normal across the northern portion of the region, most of the eastern US, and west coast.
