June was a wet month for many locations across the High Plains Region and July started off wet also!  Within the first week of the month some places had already made it into the top 10 wettest Julys on record.

Last week storms brought more locations into the top 10 wettest Julys on record and a new hail record may have been set.  According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, SD, a hailstone with a diameter of 8 inches fell in Vivian, SD.  If verified, this hailstone would beat out the current record hailstone which fell in Aurora, NE June 22, 2003.  The Aurora hailstone had a diameter of 7 inches.

Below is a list of the locations that have made it into the top 10 list for July.  The High Plains Regional Climate Center will continue to monitor the precipitation totals and update this list through the end of the month.  For questions or comments, please contact us.
