Additional heavy precipitation across the Plains this week brought further relief to many of the areas of drought and dryness according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.  The rainfall aided in dropping the area of the region in either abnormally dry or drought conditions from around 40% to just under 30%.  Although the heavy precipitiaton helped the region, drought and abnormal dryness continues to stretch across Kansas, northern Wyoming, and southeastern Colorado.  Over 60% of Kansas is continuing to experience abnormally dry or drought conditions while Wyoming's area has remained unchanged this week with 40% of the state still experiencing abnormal dryness or drought.  The moderate drought (D1) was removed across the Dakotas with a significant decrease in the abnormally dry (D0) areas for the Dakotas and in Nebraska as well.

Over the next week, below normal precipitaton is expected across the eastern portion of the region as well as most of the eastern US.  However, the western US and western part of our region are expected above average precipitation.  Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be above normal across the northern US including the High Plains Region.
