On Sunday, March 7th, Girl Scouts from southeast Nebraska came to Hardin Hall at University of Nebraska-Lincoln for "Weather Camp" and the High Plains Regional Climate Center was there to help! In order to earn their badges, the girls participated in a variety of activities, such as:
- Learn how to read and interpret the different elements of a weather map
- Visit a real life weather station and learn about the types of instruments on a weather station
- Build a weather instrument (anemometers)
- Learn about weather safety and practice building an emergency kit
- Play weather games
In total, 27 girls earned their "Weather Observer" badges. Each participant got to take home a certificate for completing the activities, their anemometers, and a packet full of weather safety information.
This event was a cooperative effort between the School of Natural Resources, the High Plains Regional Climate Center, and the National Drought Mitigation Center.
