Dec 7-9, 2009

A powerful winter storm swept through parts of the Region this week.  Snow began falling Monday night in portions of Nebraska and Kansas and continued until early Wednesday morning.  The heaviest snow fell on Tuesday and many daily snowfall records were broken (see table below).  The snow began to taper off Tuesday night, however strong northwest winds gusting from 40-50 mph created blizzard conditions, wind chills from -10F to -25F, and snow drifts of 4-6 feet.  Total snowfall from this storm generally ranged from 6-12 inches, with locally heavier amounts.  Impacts from the storm included airport delays, closed roads, closed schools, and isolated power outages.
